Petra Day Tours is an independent comparison guide to day trips to Petra from every city people actually depart from — Amman, Aqaba, Eilat, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Sharm El Sheikh. We’re not a tour operator or the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority; we’re an independent guide written to help you book the right tour at the right price.
The angle
The one thing people don’t know: Petra charges you almost double if you don’t sleep in Jordan. A one-day ticket is 50 JOD for an accommodated visitor (someone who’s spent at least one night in Jordan) and 90 JOD for a non-accommodated visitor (in and out the same day). That’s $70 versus $127 for the identical walk. This single rule explains the entire price map of every tour we review — why Amman tours start at $73 and Tel Aviv tours at $583. Our job is to tell you what Petra will actually cost from your city and whether the day is worth it.
Who writes this
I’m Rami Al-Nawafleh. I was born in Wadi Musa, the town at Petra’s gate. I spent eleven years driving the Desert Highway run between Amman and Petra. I watched thousands of people arrive at 11am and leave at 2pm having seen a third of the site. I got tired of that and started writing full-time. I still walk the main trail most weeks.
